The activities of the SJVC Physician Assistant Student Society include the following:
1. Public education activities
Health promotion disease prevention patient education projects:
- Earlimart CA. rural health fair- Childhood obesity
- Visalia County Health Expo- Childhood obesity
- Elementary School presentation- Prevention of Type II Diabetes in Children.
- Visalia Health fair-Cervical Cancer
- YMCA/local Asthma Coalition- Asthma Camp
- Royal Oak Elementary School and Lincoln Elementary School- Presentations on “Headlice”
- Tulare County fair- Diabetes
- Tulare County fair- Obesity, exercise and nutrition patient education
- Local Tulare health fair- Diabetes and Hypertension awareness
- Diet and Exercise –Health Fair at Roeding Park, Fresno California
2. Public service activities
- 2003 SJVC Thanksgiving campus food drive
- 2003 SJVC Campus toy drive
- 2005 Sent care packages to the Security Force Flight Alpha of the 447 th Expeditionary Group at Sather AirBase in Baghdad
3. Activities that promote diversity
- "World view in a classroom ", article in the Aug. 2004 issue of the campus newspaper the Vision.
- Article in The Visalia Direct Magazine January 2004 issue
4. Participation in professional and leadership activities at the local, regional, state and national levels.
- Participated in planning and implementation of 2003-2004 P A day programs.
- Responsible for pharmaceutical exhibit hall, participant registration, hosting.
- Participation in AMSA/NHSC Primary Care Week Activities 2004.
- Recognized area PA for longstanding commitment to PA profession and medically underserved.
- Physician Assistant Foundation Community based grant recipient AMSA/NHSC National Primary Care Week grant recipient
- Sponsored CME dinner featuring local PA speaker.
- Participated in 2004 California Academy of Physician Assistant Conference:
- Challenge Bowl Team
- CAPA Student Ambassador Program
- Was chosen as one of the two “Outstanding Student Societies of 2005” by the Student academy of the American academy of Physician Assistants.
- Participated in 2004 California Academy of Physician Assistant Conference:
- Challenge Bowl Team placed second.
- CAPA Student Ambassador Program
- Was recognized by California Academy of Physician Assistants as having the greatest % of student membership of all California PA programs
